Do construction workers have the most dangerous occupations in Iowa? Many experts think so, and there is more than enough data to support this hypothesis. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 150,000 construction workers are injured on the job every year across the country. Falling from elevation is one of the most common accidents on construction sites. Many times, these accidents prove to be very serious or even fatal.
Recently in another state, a man working on a
river bridge was injured after falling, prompting investigations. According to reports, the worker was working to repair the bridge when his safety equipment failed, and he plunged into the river below the bridge. Reportedly, the worker suffered injuries but the extent of his injuries was not reported.
The height of the man’s fall was also not disclosed. The accident prompted an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. OSHA has up to six months to complete the investigation. The construction company could face fines and other penalties if they are found to be at fault regarding the accident.
Construction companies in the United States are responsible for the safety of their workers. There are safety requirements and codes that all construction sites must adhere to. Workers in Iowa who have been injured while performing the duties of their jobs can get help by speaking with an attorney and filing a workers’ compensation claim to get financial assistance and other benefits.
