The main reasons why most people seek a full-time job are to support themselves and their families and also for benefits like retirement and health insurance. Many Iowa residents work in dangerous industries, such as construction or manufacturing, so getting injured on the job is a very real possibility for them. So what can a person do when he or she is injured and can no longer work? Several employees in another state were recently injured in a work-related accident and they may be eligible for workers’ compensation.
This accident happened at a dairy plant in a neighboring state. According to reports, a new barn was being constructed at the plant, and for reasons not known at this time, the roof suddenly collapsed. Reportedly, a total of ten workers suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby medical center for treatment. Due to HIPAA laws, there is no word on the extent of their injuries.
Reports said the incident prompted an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. According to OSHA guidelines, employers must report work-related injuries that resulted in hospitalizations within 24 hours. A spokesperson said OSHA has up to six months to finish the investigation and possibly issue citations if any violations are found.
Thousands of employees in Iowa face hazards every day while they are working. Luckily, workers’ compensation can provide much-needed support for injured workers. Those in Iowa who suffer a work-related injury or illness and want to take advantage of workers’ compensation benefits can get help by contacting a legal professional. A knowledgeable attorney can help those injured file a claim and guide them through every step of the process.
